RTD At Work : For the Marquee Hire Rep
The moment a client can picture it, they have already decided.
You arrive at the house. The garden is a good setting - a wide lawn, mature trees framing the edges, plenty of space to work with. The client walks you through it, gesturing at the space, describing what their daughter has in mind. You take a few photographs and go back inside.
You open your laptop at their kitchen table. RTD loads the site photograph into the design environment and the conversation moves from description to decision. You show the client three directions - a traditional pole tent, a contemporary frame structure, a Bedouin-style stretch tent that follows the contours of the garden. Their daughter leans in. The stretch tent. That one.
From that moment the design takes shape around the day itself. A top table for the wedding party. Round tables arranged for the guests. A food service area. A dance floor at the centre. A bar to one side for the evening. You place each element directly into the floorplan, adjusting until the layout works, until the space inside the tent matches the event it needs to hold.
You press a button. The floorplan is printed - the client's name at the top, the venue beneath it, every table and chair in place, every area clearly defined. The tent sits in the garden photograph exactly where it will stand on the day, at the right scale, against the trees they can see through the window.
Before you have reached the end of the driveway, the email has arrived. The tent in the garden. The floorplan with the client's name on it. Everything the client needs to say yes - and everything their daughter needs to see the day taking shape.
The hire was confirmed a few days later. But the decision was made at the kitchen table.
On the morning your crew loaded the van, they did not work from memory or a handwritten list. RTD had already generated the loading manifest from the saved project - every item of equipment, automatically listed, ready to check off as it went onto the truck.
